Elf Arrival Letter

Form EF-1 · Notice of Field Elf Arrival

The first morning sets the tone for the whole season. The arrival letter comes from Elf Field Operations on official letterhead: your elf introduces themselves, explains the house rules of elf magic, mentions their nightly reports to the North Pole and says how thrilled they are to be here. It's the paperwork that turns a small visitor into an official houseguest.

Re: Notice of Field Elf Arrival

Dear Maya and Leo,

Guess who’s back for another season of Field Operations? Me, Pip! I’ve missed you terribly. I’ve also missed your kitchen counter, which is an excellent observation post.

While I’m here, I’ll be taking notes on all the good things you do: sharing, helping, trying hard and being a good friend. I already have a whole page, and I’ve only just unpacked.

  • New spot every morning (that’s the rule)
  • Nightly reports go straight to Santa
  • Drawings for me are always welcome
  • Kindness is my favourite thing to report

Thank you for having me. I promise to be a very good houseguest (mostly).

P.S. I’m very ticklish. Please don’t tell the other elves.

Questions from grown-ups

Elf Arrival Letter

Plain answers about this document, for the grown-ups doing the filing.

Q.1When should the elf arrive?

Many families welcome their elf at the start of December; some prefer late November. The Bureau's 24-night planner starts on 1 December by default, and you can change the arrival date.

Q.2What should an elf arrival letter say?

Introduce the elf by name, explain the gentle house rules of elf magic, mention the nightly flight to the North Pole and finish with warmth. The classic wording covers all of that.

Q.3Can I use the letter for a classroom elf?

Yes. Type the class name where the child's name goes, such as “Room 4”, and the letter works beautifully for a classroom.
