Courage Recognised Here

The Office of Brave Deeds exists to notice the hard things children do. A vaccination, a dentist's chair, a first day in a new classroom, the long road to potty training, a moment of unprompted kindness: each one deserves recognition in writing.

Its documents are warm, ceremonial and specific. They celebrate effort rather than perfection, so a bravery certificate is every bit as earned when there were tears.

Certificate of Extraordinary Courage

Be it known to all who read this, including teddy bears, that

Maya

was brave during a visit to the doctor, because courage isn’t about never feeling nervous; it’s about doing it anyway. Witnesses confirm that Maya stayed brave from start to finish.

With all the rights, honours and victory dances pertaining thereto.

Why recognition in writing works

A small ritual after a hard day gives it a better ending. A certificate, a special lunch or a phone call to Grandma tells a child that the difficult thing they did was noticed, and that it mattered.

Specific praise tends to land better than general praise. “You held still for the nurse even though you were nervous” tells a child exactly what they did well, and quietly invites them to do it again. The Office's documents are built around that idea: name the deed, describe the courage, make it official.

Recognition doesn't need to be big or expensive. A sheet of paper with their name, a seal and a few warm words is often the thing that stays on the fridge for weeks.

Questions from grown-ups

Office of Brave Deeds

Answers for the grown-ups who keep this department's paperwork flowing.

Q.1What counts as a brave deed?

Anything that took courage for your child: medical visits, a new school, a swimming lesson, speaking up or sleeping in a new bed. If it was hard for them, it counts.

Q.2Are these suitable for clinics and classrooms?

Yes. Classic documents are free and unlimited, so nurses, dentists, teachers and coaches can make one per child in seconds.

Q.3Can I save brave deeds for later letters?

Yes. Add them to your Kindness Ledger, and future letters from Santa, the Tooth Fairy and others can mention them.
