About the Bureau
A small, serious office for very silly paperwork.
Somewhere around 9:47 on a school night, a tooth turns up under a pillow, an elf hasn’t moved since Tuesday, and a Halloween haul is spread across the living-room floor awaiting assessment. Childhood’s best traditions run on small, late-evening miracles, usually performed by a tired grown-up with a phone in one hand.
The Bureau of Whimsy exists for that moment. It turns the magic into paperwork: a receipt for one molar in excellent condition, a Nice List report card, an incident report concerning unauthorised marshmallow consumption. Proper forms, with case numbers, seals and signatures, made in seconds and printed at home.
Children love official documents about themselves. Grown-ups love that it takes thirty seconds. Everybody loves a rubber stamp.
The Bureau’s charter
Six articles every clerk, form and feature must obey. They decide what we build, and what we never will.
Article I: Always kind
Bureau documents praise, encourage and celebrate. Nothing threatening, shaming or frightening is ever filed. The elf may write an incident report, but only an affectionate one.
Article II: The magic stays intact
Printed documents never mention grown-ups, prices or this website. The verification page a child might scan is written for the child, and only for the child.
Article III: Children’s privacy comes first
There are no accounts for anyone. What you type about your child is used to make the document, then forgotten. The Kindness Ledger lives in your own browser.
Article IV: No adverts, ever
The Bureau is paid for by clearance passes. Nobody pays to reach your family, and nothing is sold or shared for advertising.
Article V: Honest prices
Standard Clearance is free for good. Passes are one payment, never a subscription, with a 14-day refund.
Article VI: Honest about AI
Personalised documents are drafted by an AI writing assistant under strict rules for kind, age-appropriate wording. Classic documents use the Bureau’s own prewritten wording. Either way, you read every word before it is printed.
Who runs the Bureau
The Bureau of Whimsy is an independent project made by a small team who think the little rituals of childhood deserve excellent paperwork. We are not affiliated with any government, tax authority or postal service, nor with the makers of any toy, app or brand-name character. The Parental Revenue Service, we should stress, collects only candy.
We read every message that reaches the Liaison Desk. If something on a document isn’t right, or there’s a tradition in your family you’d love the Bureau to support, we’d be glad to hear about it.
